Dr. Kristen Drahos Selected to Fill Sisters of St. Francis Endowed Chair Position
November 10, 2020
Dr. Kristen Drahos has been appointed to the Sisters of St. Francis Endowed Chair in Theology, being the first-ever to do so.
“I am honored and grateful to hold the Sisters of St. Francis Chair in Theology,” Drahos says. “I hope this position generates further excitement about Briar Cliff’s rich Catholic Franciscan heritage and helps students engage their faith more deeply and critically.”
In Jan. 2019, Briar Cliff announced a $2 million endowment by the Sisters of St. Francis establishing the Sisters of St. Francis Chair in Theology, enriching the University’s theology program through scholarship and teaching as well as infusing Catholic Franciscan values throughout Briar Cliff and into the community.
“I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Kristen Drahos as the first Sisters of St. Francis Endowed Chair in Theology at BCU. She is a gifted theologian, excels as a teacher, and has a remarkable ability to make theology relevant for college students,” says Sr. Kathy Knipper, President of Sisters of St. Francis - Dubuque. “Her efforts will strengthen BCU’s strong Catholic Franciscan education and heritage will continue to thrive.”
After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Theology from the University of Notre Dame, Dr. Drahos went on to obtain her Masters of Theological Studies and PhD in Systematic Theology also from the University of Notre Dame. She has published articles in Religion & Literature, The Church Life Journal and Practical Matters.
