Carver Molecular Biology Teaching Lab Research Team

Gain valuable hands-on experience on how life works at the level of cells and and molecules by joining the Carver Molecular Biology Teaching Lab research team. Briar Cliff students can join and become researchers after taking General Biology I and II, General Chemistry I and II and participating in a brief interview with the Director of the Carver Molecular Biology Teaching Lab.

As a student researcher, you'll work alongside your peers and the Director of the Carver Molecular Biology Teaching Lab to discover the bacteriostatic effects and anti-inflammatory effects of Prairie Turnip extracts and what beneficial bacteria can be found in a wastewater treatment (joint project with Sioux City Wastewater Treatment Plant). You'll take your findings and present them at the Iowa Academy of Sciences. In 2020, research from the Carver Molecular Biology Teaching Lab was accepted at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research (NCUR).
