Suárez Serves on Board of Directors

Dr. Wilfrido Suárez, Associate Professor of Spanish at Briar Cliff University, has recently been appointed to the Board of Directors for the Siouxland Community Health Center.

Suárez, along with the nursing department, developed a course series for Spanish for Healthcare Professionals to increase the readiness of nurse practitioners to care for underserved populations in the Midwest. The courses are devoted to the study of medical Spanish terminology and the cultural issues related to successful interactions with Spanish-speaking patients and their families in clinical settings.

The Siouxland Community Health Center provides primary and preventative medical care, dental care, and behavioral health services. Suárez also currently serves on the board of directors of Unity in Action and the Jewish Federation of Sioux City.
