Briar Cliff earns perfect Champions of Character score from NAIA

Briar Cliff University was named a Champions of Character Gold Level Five-Star winner Wednesday by the NAIA. In addition to achieving the highest award level, Briar Cliff was also one of just 16 schools that earned the full 100 points and earned top-score status. 
 
"I am beyond proud of our student-athletes and coaches that have demonstrated high levels of character through the past year," noted Nic Scandrett, vice president for athletics and operations. "This validates what we already knew about BCU, which is a community of elite character and integrity."
 
The NAIA's Five-Star Awards recognizes institutions who have demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character programming and have earned points in character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion. 
 
In total, 157 institutions were names Champions of Character Five-Star Award winners. 50 were gold winners, 60 silver winners and 47 bronze winners. 
 
Institutions earned points based on exceptional student-athlete grade point averages and by having minimal to no ejections during competition throughout the course of the academic year. The NAIA worked to collaborate with member institutions to better reflect efforts that were impacted by transition and adjustments from COVID-19.
