Briar Cliff University is proud to announce Dr. Daniel Jung will be the new Director of the Compass, effective July 25th. Dr. Jung is also an associate professor in the biology department and has built several connections with students, faculty, staff, and the community over his tenure.
Dr. Jung’s experience has allowed him to grow as an instructor. “I abandoned the lecture style teaching and employed team-based learning,” said Dr. Jung. “I was able to learn what motivates research students from the beginning of my time at BCU, then implemented what I learned from past students to new students in the lab.”
He also serves as Briar Cliff’s director of Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), allowing him to understand, educate, and implement student success measures. “There are many factors affecting student success... it is always coming down to belongness, engagement, and relationships,” adds Dr. Jung. “I finally understood that I need to help make this type of relationship in the classroom as well.”
A graduate from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, Dr. Jung earned his Ph.D. in Microbiology. He has served as faculty for the biology department at Briar Cliff University since 2014.
The Compass, a part of the Empowering Learning Initiative (ELI), funded by Title III, provides student mentoring, advising, course support, and more.
