Briar Cliff University Charger Athletics has announced the promotions of four individuals within the department. Kristy Sandman has been promoted to Associate Athletic Director / Senior Woman Administrator; Nate Treinen to Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Grounds; Ethan Erdman to Assistant Athletic Director for Communications; and Joe Privitere to Assistant Athletic Director for Operations. Stephen Clar will also support the department as the Faculty Athletic Representative.
“It is my pleasure to promote these individuals within the athletic department,” said Kelly Boe, Interim Executive Athletic Director. “They’ve put a lot of time in making sure our student-athletes have the best experience possible, and the institution is grateful for their hard work.”
Sandman has worked primarily with internal relations while supporting Briar Cliff’s athletic training program. She works with student-athlete eligibility, transportation to contests, and other compliance tasks for athletics. Sandman graduated from Briar Cliff in 2001 and was a women’s soccer team member. She spent three years as an athletic trainer at St. Ambrose University before returning to The Cliff.
Treinen oversees the upkeep of all Briar Cliff Athletic Facilities. His role ensures that practice and competition venues suit our athletic play. Before taking over Facilities and Grounds in 2018, Treinen served as the Head Track and Field Coach at Briar Cliff for over 12 years. He coached 60 All-Americans during that time. He graduated from Briar Cliff in 2003 and was a track team member.
Erdman has served as the Sports Information Director since 2021 and works in athletic communications and event setup. Erdman writes recaps and updates fans with current events happening in Charger Athletics. He also handles the social media accounts of Charger Athletics and the live stream for all home events. Erdman graduated from Briar Cliff in 2019 with a bachelor's in sports management and served as a graduate assistant for a year before becoming full-time. He obtained his Master in Sports Management from Briar Cliff in 2022
Privitere was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Operations. He assists with event management and setup at all athletic contests. Privitere manages Briar Cliff’s summer student work program, allowing students to stay on campus and work maintenance and groundskeeping tasks around campus. He will continue to serve as the Head Wrestling Coach, a position he has held since 2011-2012.
Clar is a business department faculty member, primarily teaching sports management courses. He teaches at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Clar’s experience in athletics involves being an Associate Director of Academic and Membership Affairs for the NCAA. He assisted in implementing the first NCAA Data Summit for campus leaders to discuss using data analytics to support decision-making in intercollegiate athletics.
