Aden Ford

Aden Ford’s path to becoming a teacher began at Briar Cliff University. Aden, of Bradgate, Iowa, came to Briar Cliff with a passion for learning, and she found herself welcomed by the campus community. Her involvement in the Campus Ministry, Catholic Daughters, the Theater Club, and the Education Club quickly immersed her in campus life and cemented her sense of belonging.

The path to her deciding her major in elementary education was influenced by her family and an early conversation with Dr. Engle during orientation. Initially, she considered secondary education and theology. However, through her practicum experience, Aden discovered a love for working with younger students, prompting her to pivot to elementary education.

Aden praises Briar Cliff’s Education Department for its rigor and support. Her practicum placement at Leeds Elementary gave her the confidence and skills to step into her own classroom. Additionally, courses like classroom management and instruction provided a foundation in lesson planning, classroom setup, and instructional strategies, shaping her approach to teaching.

As a Bishop Scholar, Aden’s dedication to her studies and involvement on campus stand out. Whether participating in campus events or taking the stage with the Theater Club, she has fully embraced her time at Briar Cliff. Her favorite memories include contributing to events like the Haunted Tunnels and spending time with the friends she has made at The Cliff.

With her graduation set for this December, Aden is ready to take her skills back to her hometown. She will be teaching kindergarden in Pocahontas. For current Briar Cliff students pursuing education, Aden’s advice is simple yet powerful: “I'd say try your best. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it and really challenge yourself to do the very best you can. Defy even your own expectations for yourself.”

Aden’s story shows community and dedication—values she will carry with her as she steps into her new role as an elementary educator, ready to teach the next generation.
