Briar Cliff Welcomes 2022 Presidential Scholars

April 29, 2022

Briar Cliff University welcomed four Presidential Scholars to campus for the April 29 Charger Orientation.

Ryann Coughlin, daughter of Toni and Josh Coughlin, will study Behavior Analysis and Psychology while attending BCU. She chose Briar Cliff because her parents are alumni, and she fell in love with the atmosphere and community feel. Coughlin is excited about the unique academic opportunities at Briar Cliff and ways to get involved with the university.

“I look forward to getting to know my peers and the faculty through classes and activities,” says Coughlin. “I come from a big high school, so I am excited to have the opportunity to really connect with everyone around me!”

Hannah Hoglund, daughter of Niki and Shawn Hoglund, will study Chemistry and Biology and play Soccer while attending BCU. She chose Briar Cliff because of the welcoming and positive atmosphere around campus, and for the science program.

“I am looking forward to preparing for my future career, meeting new people, and getting involved in community and campus activities,” says Hoglund.

John Nelson, son of Mark and Rita Nelson, will study Behavior Analysis and participate in Jazz Band while attending BCU. He chose Briar Cliff because of the quality level of education close to home within a supportive community.

“Although also nervous, I’m looking forward to this next chapter of my life,” says Nelson. “I think Briar Cliff will be a great fit in helping me on this next journey.”

Caleb St. Cyr, son of Amy and Mike St. Cyr, will study Exercise Physiology and play Baseball while attending BCU. He chose Briar Cliff because it felt like home, and the faculty and coaches made him feel like he belonged.

“I am looking forward to being part of a new family/community the most,” says St. Cyr. “I’m excited to meet new people and be able to continue my academic and athletic experience at The Cliff!”

The Briar Cliff presidential scholars joined Dr. Rachelle Keck, President, and Dr. Patrick Jacobson-Schulte, Executive Vice President (and future Interim President), for a ceremonial signing to welcome them as future Chargers and congratulate them on this scholarship.
