BHM Keynote speaker and BCU Alum, Dr. Julian Lee: Educator, Advocate, and Community Leader

March 4, 2025

On Feb. 11, 2025, Briar Cliff welcomed back an alum, Dr. Julian Lee, as the Black History Month Keynote speaker.

In his speech to BCU students, faculty, and staff, he covered key themes such as racism in healthcare and the negative perception healthcare settings have in community settings, income inequality as a reason for lack of consistent access to healthcare services, and health diagnostics being caught during much more complicated phases of a condition.

In celebration of BHM, he also praised individuals within the African American community who made an impact in the healthcare industry.

Dr. Lee played for the Chargers on the Men’s Football team and graduated from BCU with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration in May 2012 and a Master of Art in Management in May 2015.

In December 2017, Dr. Lee completed his Master of Healthcare Administration degree. In June 2023, he graduated from National University with a Doctorate in Business Administration with an emphasis on Healthcare Administration.

Currently, he serves as the Director of Performance Excellence and Process Improvement at the Siouxland Community Health Center (SCHC) in Sioux City, Iowa.

His role includes helping lead the Siouxland Community Health Center’s Performance Excellence Transition. He leads and coordinates all performance excellence and process improvement strategies, with his key goal in this role being to help advance the organizational mission of improving health outcomes for all.

While his main focus is on leading the SCHC, he also continues to give back to the Briar Cliff community as an adjunct professor for the university.
