2021 Spirit of St. Francis Award presentation

Spirit of St. Francis Award

May 8, 2021

Sr. Janet May began her journey at Briar Cliff as an undergraduate pursuing her degree in biology. After receiving her master’s in religious education from Seattle University and teaching grade school for several years, Sr. Janet returned to BCU in the fall of 2003 as the Director of Campus Ministry. She also helped students grow in their Catholic faith and embody our Franciscan values. Sr. Janet also served as an advisor for the Catholic Daughters and S.O.U.R.C.E. Needless to say, she has touched many lives during her time here on The Cliff.

Sr. Janet played a key role in RCIA, Antioch, and Busy Persons Retreats as she encouraged students to grow in their faith. She led Campus Ministry activities including annual trips to Honduras, North Omaha, Winnebago, and Macy Reservations and so much more. On campus, Sr. Janet organized the Christmas Party for Persons with Disabilities, the annual Angel Christmas tree, and other outreach activities. She also led the campus through healing as we mourned the loss of 2 students throughout her service to the university.

As a tribute to her years of service, the university established the Sr. Janet May Endowed Scholarship to honor her legacy and the impact she has had on many lives at Briar Cliff.

Sister Janet, thank you for all that you have done and continue to do for our community.

It is our pleasure to present the 2021 Spirit of St. Francis Award to Sister Janet May.
