Michael Anthony
Emphasis on the first
Michael (Mike) Anthony ('21) completed the Homeland Security Emphasis in the Criminal Justice program during the Spring 2020 semester. In order to receive the emphasis, students must complete courses in homeland security, terrorism and emergency management.
Briar Cliff is the only university in the area that offers this emphasis and Mike was the first student to complete the emphasis at BCU. He decided to pursue the emphasis when his advisor, Patricia Feese, told him about the program.
"After college, I am looking to have a career in Federal Law Enforcement," Mike says. "It sounded like a great opportunity to add to my degree. This emphasis could help me get into a homeland security role with the FBI."
One of Mike's favorite classes, Understanding Terrorism, explored the psychological aspects of terrorism. This, along with other classes in the emphasis, have prepared him for his future career.
"This was a great opportunity for me and it is great for anyone who would like to pursue a career in criminal justice," Mike says.
