Assistant Professor of Psychology - Department Chair Potential

Briar Cliff University of Iowa, an institution committed to higher education within a liberal arts and Catholic perspective, invites applications for a 9-month, tenure track Assistant Professor of Psychology position beginning in August 2025. The area of expertise is open, but preference will be given to candidates with specialization in (a) Developmental Psychology, (b) Clinical Psychology, or (c) Behavioral (i.e., Behavior Analysis). For candidates with specialization in Behavior Analysis, preference will be given to candidates that are accredited as Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA).

Regardless of the specialization, candidates should have experience teaching/be prepared to teach Introductory Psychology courses and courses in Professional Development and Research Methods. Below is a listing of courses specific to each specialization (successful candidates should be able to teach all courses listed for their respective specialization).

Developmental Specialization:

  • Developmental Psychology
  • Child and Adolescent Psychology
  • Adulthood and Aging

Clinical Specialization:

  • Abnormal Psychology
  • Theories of Personality
  • Forensic Psychology

Behavioral Specialization:

  • Principles of Learning
  • Behavioral Interventions
  • Single-Subject Research Methods

Beyond teaching assigned courses, the successful candidate will be expected to set up and maintain an active research laboratory or professional internship opportunity. These activities should be designed to promote undergraduate participation in research or clinical opportunities. Successful candidates will also be expected to contribute to the University’s Franciscan Mission through service to the University and Siouxland Community.

There is potential for the candidate to serve as departmental chair.

Required Qualifications/Experience:

  • A Ph.D. or the ability to show evidence of the planned receipt of the degree before the Fall 2025 semester.
  • Evidence of strong instructional effectiveness, and strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience with promoting inclusiveness.
