Midwest Homeschool Families Gain Access to Affordable College Credit Through Expanded University Partnership

August 26, 2025

(Sioux City, Iowa - August 26, 2025) Recognizing the financial pressures facing homeschool families, Briar Cliff University has expanded its partnership with TEL Education to provide homeschool students throughout the Midwest with an on-demand, affordable pathway to college success. The Briar Cliff University Courses On-Demand program offers regionally accredited college courses at just $100 per credit hour – approximately half the cost of online alternatives.

This partnership directly addresses concerns from homeschool parents who want to provide their children with college-preparatory opportunities without compromising family budgets or educational flexibility. Since a single course fee includes all necessary materials, families can invest in their children's education without incurring significant debt.

“At Briar Cliff, we recognize both the financial and educational pressures families face today. This partnership creates an affordable pathway for homeschool students to earn college credits while still in high school, expanding accessibility to higher education," said Dr. Matthew Draud, President of Briar Cliff University. "By providing accredited courses at a fraction of the usual cost, we’re opening doors for students to pursue their goals earlier, complete their degrees more quickly, and enter the workforce sooner.

Financial and Family Benefits:

  • No Hidden Fees: Course costs include all textbooks and materials, eliminating surprise expenses

  • Future Savings: Students entering college with dual credit can reduce overall degree costs by thousands of dollars

  • Schedule Freedom: Self-paced format accommodates family travel, work schedules, and other homeschool activities

The program particularly benefits families in rural Midwest communities where college prep options are limited. Parents no longer need to drive long distances for dual credit courses or sacrifice family time for rigid class schedules. Students can complete coursework during hours that work best for their family's routine and in coordination with farm chores, sports, art clubs, faith activities, and even part-time jobs.

Homeschool mother Linsey Knerl shared her experience: “These classes fit perfectly into our liberal arts homeschool and long-term higher ed goals. I was surprised at how easy it was to enroll my student.”

Students can register for up to four courses per semester, allowing ambitious learners to accumulate significant college credit during high school. With over 25 courses available, including laboratory sciences with virtual labs, families can address nearly all general education requirements before traditional college enrollment.

Enrollment is open year-round, allowing students to begin their college journey whenever they're ready.
