Lead Accountant
The Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in supporting the financial operations and accounting functions of the university. This position will provide accounting activities, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and university financial policies. The Lead Accountant will manage key projects and assist in the overall financial health of the university.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

- Account Reconciliation and Financial Oversight:
- Lead monthly and annual closing processes, including reconciliations of bank accounts, pledge receivables, GL accounts, and tax-related accounts.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of all reconciliations, identifying and correcting discrepancies as needed.
- Fund Account Reporting (Departmental and Grants)
- Chart of Accounts Understanding and Maintenance
- Audit and Compliance Support:
- Internal Controls and Reporting:
- Review and ensure compliance with GAAP regulations and internal controls, supporting the Finance team’s efforts to maintain proper procedures.
- Prepare ad hoc reports and data analysis to assist with the decision making and financial planning.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in accounting, preferably with experience in higher education or similar industry
- Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and fund accounting, with experience in managing complex financial processes and audits.
- Strong knowledge of accounting and financial processes, including budgeting, financial closure, and regulatory compliance
- Experience with Ellucian or similar higher education accounting software is a plus
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel (i.e. pivot tables, vlookup, advanced formulas)
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and data interpretation skills
- Highly organized with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to lead, mentor and collaborate with a team of accounting professionals.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, students and external agencies.
