Facilities Technician
The primary function of the facilities technician is a working position responsible for the care, maintenance, & upkeep of the campus grounds. The facilities technician will also cover open positions for housekeeping when needed.
JOB'S ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Mows lawns to appropriate heights
- Edges lawns
- Trims lawns
- Fertilizes larns, trees, and shrubs
- Controls weeds by cultural control or timely application of appropriate herbicides
- Uses blower to clean landscaped areas
- Plant annuals or perennials
- Replaces bushes or shrubbery
- Remove leaves during appropriate season
- Snow removal as required
- Performs cleaning functions when needed
- Responds immediately during shift hours to requests by campus staff or administration for any emergency which may require minor maintenance
- Responds in the event of unscheduled closures due to weather events and/or other circumstances, facilities technicians are considered "essential personnel" for reopening the college
- Performs other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent and working knowledge of the methods, material, tools, & equipment used in the landscape & grounds industry. Experience in standard custodial practices, procedures and techniques in an organization with extended hours of operation and multiple high-traffic areas is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential tasks of this job.) Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. Occasionally required to sit. Frequently must squat, stoop, or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. Daily uses hand strength to grasp tools, supplies and equipment. Occasionally climbs ladders. Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Regularly works indoors and outdoors. Occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays. Frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock, mechanical hazards, explosive hazards, burn hazards, chemical hazards. Meet deadlines with severe time constraints. Moderate noise level. Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat
