Course Objectives for the EMR Course

  1. Analyze the Current State: Provide a comprehensive analysis of patient care and medical environments, focusing on challenges associated with managing pain.
  2. Review Advancements in Pain Science: Examine significant findings in pain science over the past two decades and their implications for physical therapists treating pain in clinical settings.
  3. Summarize Clinical Applications: Summarize various clinical applications of Pain Neuroscience Education (PNE) and related treatments, emphasizing their effectiveness in managing patients with pain.

About the Instructor

Dr. Zimney is an Associate Professor within the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of South Dakota and the Director of the Ph.D. in Health Sciences program at USD. He also serves as Senior Faculty with Evidence in Motion (EIM) and researcher with Therapeutic Neuroscience Research Group and USD Center for Brain and Behavior Research. His primary teaching, research, and treatment focuses are on pain neuroscience, therapeutic alliance, and evidence-based practice for orthopedic injuries of the spine and extremities. He has published multiple peer-reviewed research articles and lectured nationally and internationally in these areas.
