Suárez Named Teacher of the Year

Dr. Willie Suárez has been announced as the 2021 recipient of the Teacher of the Year Award from the South Dakota World Languages Association.

Dr. Suárez is an Associate Professor of Spanish and the Director of the Spanish Program Languages at Briar Cliff. His community involvement includes serving on the board of directors of the Siouxland Community Health Center, Unity in Action, and the Jewish Federation of Sioux City.

“I am committed to our mission of providing vision, leadership, and support for quality teaching and learning of languages. Today more than ever, we envision an interconnected world where everyone benefits from and values a multilingual and cultural education,” says Dr. Suárez. “Our students are our everything, and anything can be possible. My goal is to build a community of peace and mutual respect.” 

The SDWLA South Dakota World Languages Association is intended to elevate the status and the public profile of the language profession at the state, regional, and national levels by creating opportunities to recognize accomplished members of the profession.
