Break Occupancy
All students are expected to vacate campus during University's academic break periods that are set throughout the year. During the designated breaks, residence halls are only open to individuals who meet one or more of the following criteria. Those who qualify for one of the following exceptions must complete the following form to request approval to remain on campus during the breaks.
Valid Exceptions for Break Occupancy
- You live more than 500 miles away from Briar Cliff University.
- You are in-season athlete cleared by your coach.
- You are student teaching or have an Briar Cliff University approved internship.
All individuals planning to stay for all or a portion of University's break period must complete the form below.
What to Expect
All policies, rules, and standards of living stated in the Student Handbook and general housing contract will remain in effect. Any individual(s) in violation of these guidelines, or any housing policy, will be assessed a minimum fine of $75 and be asked to leave the residence halls immediately, and may lose future break/extended stay privileges.
Break Reminders |
In addition to all regular student standards below, here are some break policy reminders of which you should be aware.
- No visitors are allowed in the residence halls except for those students who also have been approved for break housing. Gender-specific visitation rules and all campus policies still apply.
- Briar Cliff University residence halls are alcohol free during all breaks, including summer. Any fines for alcohol violations will double during this period.
- Meal services are not available for break occupancy residents. A kitchen with a stove and refrigerator is located on each floor.
- You must receive approval from the Department of Residence Life by the registration deadline. Failure to do so will result in a late registration fee of $25.
