The Stark Student Center is the hub of Briar Cliff's campus. The multi-functional facility houses Briar Cliff's cafeteria, student development offices, a stage, a pub and game area, three reception rooms, a small conference room, a mail service and the Clausen Art Gallery.
The design, particularly the vista on the south side, is influenced by ancient Italian hilltop design -- a reference to Briar Cliff's Franciscan roots (as are the names of the three reception rooms: The St. Francis Room, Clare Room and Assisi Room). On special occasions, the three reception rooms combine to form one large reception hall.
The student center is connected to Alverno Hall through a hallway that opens out to Heffernan Mall. It also connects to the Bishop Mueller Library and Heelan Hall through underground tunnels, which most students use when the weather is harsh.
This building was completed in 2000.
