Entrepalooza Offers Opportunities for Siouxland Entrepreneurs

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Briar Cliff University and 12 other Siouxland organizations will co-sponsor Entrepalooza, a celebration of entrepreneurial spirit in Siouxland, beginning Monday, Feb. 25, through Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013.

The four-day event will kick off on Monday, Feb. 25, with keynote speaker Lance Morgan, CEO of Ho-Chunk, Inc. Morgan will address the benefits of entrepreneurship at 7 p.m., in the Stark Student Center at Briar Cliff. This free public event is sponsored by the Eldon and Regina Roth Center for Entrepreneurship and Enactus student group at Briar Cliff University.

On Tuesday, Feb.26, the Innovation Market will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Commerce Building, 520 Nebraska Street. Entrepreneurs and business leaders are invited to attend the event. Young professionals are encouraged to submit business ideas that will benefit Siouxland. Sponsored by the Sioux City Growth Organization (SCGo), Innovation Market is a venue for entrepreneurs to showcase their ideas for businesses, community events and non-profits. On Wednesday, Feb. 27, Briar Cliff’s Entrepreneurship Camp for high school students will be held on the BCU campus from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Sponsored by BCU’s Enactus team, the Entrepreneurship Camp will feature local entrepreneurs advising high school students on their business plans. Preregistration is required. Also on Feb. 27, Morningside College will sponsor “Be An Entrepreneur for a Day,” where participants may interact with local entrepreneurs.  For more information, contact Pam Mickelson at mickelson@morningside.edu. At 6:30 p.m., Siouxlanders may “Get on the Bus” to tour the businesses of four local entrepreneurs. Space is limited for this event, which is sponsored by BCU’s Roth Center for Entrepreneurship and Enactus. On Thursday, Feb. 28, Briar Cliff’s Roth Center for Entrepreneurship and Enactus will host the annual “Swimming with the Sharks” competitions on the Briar Cliff campus. Presentations and judging for the general public contest will begin at 7 p.m. and at 8:30 p.m. for the college student contest. General public finalists will vie for mini-grants valued up to $4,200. There will be $3,500 in grant money for college student finalists. Contest prize money will be provided by Siouxland Economic Development Corporation and Economic Development offices of South Sioux City, North Sioux City, Sioux City and Woodbury County. Prior to the four-day event, a Consulting Fair will be held at Northeast Community College Centre in South Sioux City, Neb., Monday, Feb. 18 starting at 6:30 pm. The fair will feature business and marketing experts from the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and Service Corp of Retired Executives (SCORE), who will be on hand for advice on starting and growing businesses.
