Briar Cliff University Presents 'Christmas at the Orpheum'
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Briar Cliff University will present Christmas at the Orpheum, the region’s premier choral-orchestral celebration with more than 175 performers, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at the Orpheum Theatre, 528 Pierce Street in Sioux City.
Themed “What Sweeter Music,” the holiday event will feature the charming music of British composer John Rutter, American composer Howard Helvey and Classical composers Bizet, Schumann and Yon, among others, conducted by Dr. Sean Burton, division chair of arts and humanities, associate professor of music and the Gilchrist Foundation director of choral activities at BCU.
The program will include performances by the Briar Cliff University Choirs, members of the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra; Shannon Salyards, adjunct instructor of music at BCU, soprano; Richard Steinbach, professor of music at BCU, piano; Grace United Methodist Church Solid Brass Bell Choir; Siouxland Choral Artists and Siouxland Youth Chorus. The talents of Dr. Jeremy Owens, assistant professor of music at BCU, also will be showcased on The Mighty Wurlitzer.
Concert tickets, $12 for general admission and $10 for students and senior citizens, may be purchased at the door or in advance by calling 279-5417. No reserved seating. Doors open at 7 p.m. Christmas at the Orpheum is supported in part by the M.A. Martin Everist Foundation.
