BCU Offers Free Income Tax Preparation for Elderly, Low-Income Taxpayers
SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Briar Cliff University business and accounting students will be offering free income tax preparation assistance for elderly and low-income and moderate-income taxpayers in Siouxland as a part of the AARP Tax-Aide Program.
This free service will be available to qualifying taxpayers from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tax preparation will be done by appointment only in Heelan Hall, Room 138, on the Briar Cliff campus. To schedule an appointment, call 712-279-5417.
BCU students preparing basic federal, Iowa and Nebraska income tax returns as a part of the AARP Tax-Aide Program have completed basic income tax preparation and IRS training.
“Through this program, Briar Cliff students apply their business knowledge, while providing a valuable volunteer service to the Siouxland community,” said Dr. Susan Udey, professor of accounting at Briar Cliff.
Taxpayers participating in AARP Tax-Aide Program at Briar Cliff will need to bring the following items to their appointment: social security card, photo identification, wage and earnings statements (Form W-2), IRA distributions and pensions and annuities (1099R), bank interest statements (Form 1099), dividend statements and a copy of their 2009 state and federal tax returns (if available).
