Dr. Phil Burian’s career spans over 30 years of technical and leadership positions in government, industry, and academic environments. His diverse background coupled with operational experience provides an extremely broad insight from a technology, leadership and business perspective.
His career began in the military supporting aircraft electronic systems during the Vietnam Era. He also managed the development and implementation of space-based and terrestrial communication and sensor systems. Dr. Burian is a retired U.S. Air Force Officer and has served as commanding officer of a large mobile logistics support group for a military airlift organization.
Dr. Burian’s industry experience includes Fortune 500, Start-up and businesses undergoing complete operational and technology transformation initiatives. He has held research and development, program management, applications development, systems integration, infrastructure operations, architect and chief engineer positions.
His academic experience includes teaching Undergraduate, Master’s and Doctoral courses in business, technology and leadership since 1988. He has held positions to include Professor, Department Chair, Dissertation Chair, Graduate Council Chair, and Academic Dean. Dr. Burian’s research interests include aligning technology organizations with business vision and values; Nanotechnology; organizational science; systems life-cycle development; leadership; and improving an organization’s competitive profile. He has written and published numerous peer reviewed journal articles and has presented at both national and local professional conferences and symposiums. He has also served as a peer reviewer for the American Recovery Act, Broadband Technology Opportunities Program, which was a $4.2B funded U.S. Department of Commerce Broadband Program.
Dr. Burian holds industry professional certifications to include the ICPM Certified Manager (CM) and ASQ Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE).
